Back to Events Second Act Speaker Series Luncheon We are thrilled to welcome Richard Propes as our featured guest for the next installment of the Second Act Speaker Series Luncheon! In 1989, longtime activist Richard Propes had lost nearly everything a human being can lose - his wife and newborn daughter, both feet, his home, and his hope. What happened next is a story of passion, perseverance, and resilience of the human spirit. Richard would tell you that he's just one man; join us as Richard shares the story of the Tenderness Tour, a 37-year journey along the roads of Indiana and beyond raising money, raising hope, and doing justice and his current campaign to abolish medical debt for Indiana families. Propes has raised over $1 million for organizations working to end violence in the lives of children, and in the last two years has abolished over $20 million in medical debt for hoosier families. The author of "The Hallelujah Life," Propes is the founder of TheIndependentCritic.com and a Tomatometer-approved film critic. He founded Indy's Race Away From Domestic Violence 23 years ago and is currently the featured in the award-winning documentary "Just One Man." Propes himself has won numerous awards for his activism including Indiana's Sagamore of the Wabash and Prevent Child Abuse America's highest honor, the Donna J. Stone Award. Propes believes in doing justice by any means necessary and has produced the short film "Edmund Evans is a Rapist," a short doc about one woman's efforts to seek justice after an on-campus sexual assault, along with the benefit CD "Give a Girl a Chance," the IndyFringe show "Laughing Sober," and the benefit comedy show "Straight Outta Cowan." Propes, in his second year as an ordained deacon with Second Presbyterian Church, is a lifelong Indy resident and graduate of Martin University and Richmond, Indiana's Bethany Theological Seminary who has served in a variety of ministry positions from interim pastor to children's pastor to chaplain at the former Winona Memorial Hospital.
