Take A Second - April 8, 2020

"Resurrection means that the worst thing is never the last thing."

--Frederick Buechner

Our journey together through Holy Week holds with steadfast faith and tradition, no matter our distance. From Jesus' triumphant entry into Jerusalem, through the poignant Last Supper on Maundy Thursday, with the meditations of Good Friday, and, finally, to Jesus' glorious Resurrection on Easter morning -- we continue to hold faith, together.

Join with us as we walk through Holy Week. Everything you need to know is at SecondChurch.org/HolyWeek.

MAUNDY THURSDAY, April 9, 8 PM
Rebroadcast of 2019 Tenebrae Worship Service

This year, we invite you to embrace the sacred traditions and scripture of Maundy Thursday from home -- engaging in the practices of prayer, washing feet, and sharing a meal. At SecondChurch.org/HolyWeek, you'll find a guide to help you participate in this liturgy from home.

Maundy Thursday begins the Three Days (or Triduum), remembering the new commandment that Christ gave us in word and deed as he taught us how to love one another, washing our feet as a servant. We also celebrate the Lord's Supper, remembering the meal Christ shared with his disciples before his death. We invite you to share in this holy evening, even amidst our distance.

GOOD FRIDAY, APRIL 10, Beginning at 12 Noon
Watch at SecondChurch.org/HolyWeek

Hear meditations on the words Jesus uttered from the cross, collectively known as the Seven Last Words of Christ. Beginning at noon, a special video presentation will feature vocal and instrumental music interpreting each word. Our pastors and musicians will unite our hearts and minds as we remember Jesus' crucifixion. The hours of noon to 3 p.m. are particularly significant as these commemorate the time Jesus hung on the cross. It is an especially important time to pray for the church and the world for whom Christ gave his life.

"But go, tell his disciples and Peter that he is going ahead of you to Galilee;
there you will see him, just as he told you."
(Mark 16:7)

The festival of the Resurrection of the Lord (or Easter Sunday) is the center of the Christian year. We will joyfully proclaim the good news that is at the very heart of the gospel: Jesus Christ is risen from the dead. Our Livestream will begin at 11 a.m. and will include beloved traditions of music and song, along with fellowship that continues to transcend our distance. Rev. Chris Henry will preach from the Gospel of Mark and lead us in triumphant celebration of Christ's resurrection.
