The Lighting of the Christ Candle

        One:      We light the candle as a symbol of the hope, peace, joy, and love
                       to be found in God’s kingdom on earth.
                       For the Lord lifts up the lowly,
                       releases the captive,
                       and proclaims joy for all of creation.
                       We rejoice in God’s justice and mercy,
                       faithful to all generations.
                       We rejoice in the birth of the Christ Child,
                       the coming of God into our lives in a new way.

        All:         We rejoice filled with hope, knowing God’s light shines in the darkness.

        One:      We rejoice anticipating God’s peace, believing that one day it will fill our world.

        All:         We rejoice embracing your love;
                        may we reach out to share it with our neighbors.

        One:       We rejoice eagerly, standing on tiptoe to sense your presence.

         All:        Lord, we rejoice.
                        You came as a babe born to Mary and filled us all with life. Amen.
