There will be separate fun activities and programming for middle school and high school students in this beautiful wooded setting in Brownstown, Indiana - Pyoca Always Feels Like Home.  More can happen on one of these retreats than in an entire six months of youth ministry programming. Sign up now! Friends are always welcome.

As with all youth ministries events, retreats, and trips, scholarship money is available. We never want a student to be left out because of cost. Please contact Stephanie Bewley, Tyler Wolfcale, or Brian Shivers if you want to talk about available scholarships. Still time to save $15 on the full price of the retreat. Youth Ministry
Vision and Objectives

Youth Ministry
Vision and Objectives

Vision:

Youth Ministries at Second Presbyterian Church seeks to provide middle and high school students (grades 6-12) with a welcoming, safe and encouraging community, which encourages faith discovery, spiritual growth, dedication to Jesus Christ, and full engagement in the corporate life of Second Presbyterian Church. Youth Ministries at Second is a space where middle and high school students gather not to witness an event but to be a part of something bigger than themselves.

Objectives:

We believe this can best be accomplished through the integration of all youth into the broader life of the church by their full participation in:

  • worship;
  • service opportunities and trips;
  • development of community initiatives;
  • all Christian education offerings;
  • church-wide stewardship efforts; and
  • the church's institutional structure (ministry teams, committees, board of deacons, etc.)

Niners
A Confirmation Experience - The next step in your journey of faith

Niners
A Confirmation Experience

Niners is a nine-month confirmation experience for high school freshmen (or other high school students who have not yet gone through confirmation, joined the church, or are transferring their membership).

If you are interested in confirmation at Second, please fill out this form.

Confirmation is another step in your journey of faith. You are not expected to have it all figured out! As a matter of fact, you are expected to have questions - lots of them. And all of your questions are welcome and can be explored openly with honesty and integrity here.

Niners is designed to take an in-depth look at the Christian faith with the Apostles’ Creed as our guide. We look hard into faith and topics such as the nature of God, the teachings of Jesus, the Holy Spirit, Christian practices and much more.

Each Niner will be in a small group facilitated by an adult guide, as well as several of our peer mentors (upperclassmen). These groups read, study and discover together as well as support one another along this journey of faith.

Niners is not a class. Niners is an exciting adventure of faith.

Niners is...

  • a safe place where you can be yourself.
  • a place where you can meet and get to know some amazing people you may never have the opportunity to get to know otherwise.
  • provides an opportunity to interact with your questions and uncertainties about life and faith honestly.
  • is an experience.
  • is a journey of faith.
  • is confirmation.

What is Confirmation?

First of all, Confirmation does not mean that you have everything figured out. No one here does. As a matter of fact, we want you to know that all of your questions are welcome and can be explored openly with honesty and integrity. Confirmation is exactly what the word says. It is to confirm — accept, verify, approve — the Christian faith as your own. It does not mean that you have all of your questions answered. It is another step in your lifelong journey of faith. Confirmation is becoming a full member of and participant in this family of faith as we discover what it means to believe together.

What happens at Niners?

  • The unpredictable
  • Fun activities
  • Food
  • Music
  • Small group discussions
  • Challenging discoveries
  • Personal faith growth
  • Building and strengthening friendships
Come for the fun.
Come for the people.
Come for the food.
Come for the discussions.
Come for the music.
It doesn’t really matter why you come; we just want you to be here. Niners cannot be all it could be without you.

We are excited about this year, and want to invite you to be a part of this amazing experience. Give Niners a chance; take the risk. It will be more than worth it. Hope to see you and your parents at the on Wednesday, September 7, from 6:30-8:00 p.m., in the Youth Suite on the second floor. Also, join us for Promotion Sunday on Sunday, August 7, at 9:30 - also in the Youth Suite. The Youth Ministry Team will be there to answer your questions and get to know you.  In the meantime, please register at the link above.

Niners officially begins on Wednesday, September 14 in the Youth Suite at 6:30 p.m.

Youth Leadership
Interested in joining the team?

Youth Leadership

This is student leadership at its best. This is an amazing opportunity to give of yourself and your faith as well as to work with an amazing team of peers and adults. It is our hope that every student will find a way to become engaged in the corporate life of Second Presbyterian Church by serving on a ministry team or committee.

The leadership teams have an open application process throughout the entire year. If you are over 18 you will need to fill out a background check form. These are also available online. We will contact you with the link.

Applications are available by clicking here. [NEED FORM]

We would love for you to be a part of one of the ministry teams or committees at Second.
