Meet our September Speaker, David Champa:
David Champa will share his faith journey at the September Men’s Monthly Fellowship. He is a native Hoosier who grew up in Boggstown, Indiana, where church and Boy Scouts played a central role in his life. An Eagle Scout, he was appointed to the U.S. Air Force Academy by Congressman Lee Hamilton and went on to serve six years on active duty as a pilot and instructor, followed by twenty years in the Air Force Reserve, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1998. While serving as a Reservist, David had a distinguished 26-year career with Delta Air Lines, flying worldwide as an international captain and instructor/check pilot on the Boeing 767. He retired in 2004 and returned to school, earning a master’s degree in history and teaching at Georgia State University. Faith and service have always guided David. A lifelong supporter of Scouting, he was awarded the Silver Beaver Award for distinguished service. At Smoke Rise Baptist Church in Georgia, he sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, and served as a deacon. After marrying Sharon, from Columbia City, Indiana, they eventually returned home, settling in Crawfordsville before her passing in 2019. David joined Second in 2021, where he sings in the choir and serves in the food pantry and as a deacon. He is father to three children, stepfather to four, and grandfather to eighteen.
