Inside Look: Incredible Summer  (a brief look inside a recent program or event)
June 13 marks the beginning of what you might call the travel season in youth ministries at Second.  Check out what over 100 youth will be doing this summer as they travel around the world together learning about faith, giving of themselves in service and being forever transformed.

June 13-23 - Footsteps of Faith - 20 recent high school graduates will journey together in the Footsteps of the Apostle Paul and the founders of the early church through the streets of Athens, Corinth, Ephesus, Patmos, Samos and Rome.  Follow their progress here.

June 27-July 2 - WYSIWYG - Middle School Mission Trip - Louisville - over 20 middle school students and their adult advisors will spend 5 days in Louisville serving God alongside one another.  This is going to be be an amazing journey in faith and life.  Follow their progress and the progress of the two high school mission trips here.

July 18-24 - High School Week 1 - Mystery Trip - Destination 1
July 24-30 - High School Week 2 - Mystery Trip - Destination 2
Approximately 60 high school students and their advisors will be participating in one of two destination unknown mission trips.  Both weeks will be to a different destination.  The work will be wonderful.  The people we meet will be amazing.  Destination Unknown is based on the idea that mission trips (and life itself) are not about the destination; they are about the journey.

Please keep all of these students and their advisors in your prayers regularly this summer.  Also, make sure you keep up with where they are and what they are doing through this website.

CONFIRMATION
Sunday, May 9, 48 students (46 freshmen, 1 sophomore, and 1 junior) were confirmed into membership of Second Presbyterian Church.  Six of these students were baptized on Wednesday, May 5.  This was a wonderful culmination to an amazing year together.  It is our hope and prayer that these young people will stay engaged in the life of Second Presbyterian Church.  We welcome these new members with open arms!!  We are proud of them all!

I Love You Guys - Check out this link to an amazing website and foundation started by a family who lost their only daughter to a tragic on campus shooting at a high school in 2006.  Their learnings and ideas may be something of interest to you.  Click here for a link to their website.

BULLYING - Please read this important article on the issue of bullying.  It has a lot to say about what Jesus told us is at the heart of the Gospel - LOVE ONE ANOTHER.  Click here for the article found in Time Magazine.

Suicide Prevention - Brian is on the board for the Indiana Chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.  There is some really important information and resources on the website.  This is a silent killer among American teens.  Help us Shatter the Silence.  There is a community walk coming in September 2010.  Click here for more information.  You might also find this link to "To Write Love on Her Arms" interesting.

Youth Research - Here is a great link to some recent research about youth, their world and spirituality.  The Spiritual Development Center is a part of Search Institute, one of the leading research organizations that focuses on youth and their development.  Click here for a summary of their recent research.
