After another wonderful evening together last night of fun, fellowship and worship, the group got a good night's rest in preparation for today's work. Today they are again working with Faith Mission in Elkhart. They are doing gardening, light demolition work, and organizational work inside. The weather is very cool. Therefore, they will not be swimming tonight. Instead the group will go bowling together. This has been an incredible trip for everyone. Thank you for your prayers. The group will return tomorrow - Friday, Juy 3 - at noon or just before here at the church.
Prayer:
Almighty and Loving God, we give you thanks for this incredible opportunity you have given to our young people. Please remind them of your love and surround them with your grace as they draw this trip to a close. We give you all of the praise. Amen.
Wednesday, July 1
Today our mission group is working with an organization called Faith Mission in Elkhart. This is the largest mission in the area. They have a soup kitchen, thrift store, emergency housing for single men and women as well as families, and life skills training programs. The organization owns buildings on all four corners of an intersection in town. Our young people are doing a wide variety of work with this organization. It is an impressive organization that does amazing work in the community. Here is a photo of our group serving lunch.
Last night the group had an incredible devotional time. These devotions are led by the students. During this time they reflect upon where they have seen God throughout the day. This is a meaningful way to frame the day for all of the participants. God is doing incredible work through these amazing missionaries! Praise God.
Prayer:
Almighty God, we give you thanks for the exposure you have given our young people to the many women and men who work for justice and peace in your world. Be with them as they work with these amazing people. Help our students to see the work of their hands and the words of their mouth making an impact through your Holy Spirit. Amen.
Tuesday, June 30
Today the group is working at the Crossing Educational Center in Goshen today. They are doing similar work to that which they did yesterday. They had an amazing day yesterday and are looking forward to more of the same. Last night they had a wonderful meal together and a great time of worship. God, we give you thanks for the work of the hands and hearts of our young missionaries. Keep their eyes and ears open to what it is that you are doing in their midst. Keep them well. Thank you. Amen.
Monday, June 29
The group arrived safely in Goshen last night and had a great dinner and a meaningful opening devotional time. Today they are working on their first project of the week. They are at an alternative high school in Elkhart, Crossing Educational Center, doing some cleaning and light maintenance work. It has been a wonderful day. Please pray that they would be surprised by God around every corner.
Prayer:
Almighty God, please grant our young missionaries strength and courage as they begin their journey together. Surprise them with amazing experiences and wonderful challenges. Thank you for this opportunity. Amen.
Sunday, June 28
Today a group of 20 youth and their four advisors hit the road for Goshen and Elkhart, Indiana. They left the church excited about spending a week together in this area of the state that has been hit incredibly hard by the difficult economy. Please keep them in your prayers as they work hard, grow closer together, have fun and deepn their faith.
