As Associate Pastor of Evangelism and Congregational Life, Jim is responsible for many key church functions, including hospitality, Discovery class for new members, The Search class for new believers, the spiritual formation ministry and the weekly Men’s Fellowship Breakfast and Bible Study. He is the staff liaison for the Indianapolis Great Banquet community, which holds its spiritual retreats at Second Presbyterian Church. Jim also manages several special events, such as the annual church picnic, Men’s Steak Dinner, Sweetheart Banquet and the annual intergenerational church retreat.
Prior to joining the staff of Second in January of 1994, Jim served as an associate pastor at First Presbyterian Church of Houston. He has also been Senior Pastor at Ingleside Presbyterian Church in Atlanta, and pastor at Mount Carmel Presbyterian Church in Cincinnati.
Jim holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Gordon College in Boston, a Master of Divinity degree from Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, California, and a Doctorate of Ministry degree from Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, Georgia.
Jim and his wife Debby have four adult children and two granddaughters. Jim loves cars, especially sports cars, and is a fan of the Indianapolis Colts and Ohio State University Buckeyes football. He also enjoys reading books on the early history of our country and the history of the Reformation in Scotland.
