Discipleship

"Easter begins in fear, but it ends with the courage to follow. The courage to face the worst this world can offer with a faith that defies mere reason."

Rev. Chris Henry

Coming up this Sunday: Resurrection in the Plural
Join us at 11 a.m. online and hear Rev. Chris Henry preach from the Gospel of John.
"When he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, 'Receive the Holy Spirit.'" (John 20:22)

What does it mean to be a "Disciple"?

Supporting one another, praying together, growing in our faith -- these are all ways we embrace discipleship as the body of Christ. Even in the midst of separation, we have seen the power of discipleship shine through so many acts of love and tender care. With a new online Bible study (designed for one, or for many on Zoom!), Facebook Live evening prayer, and our Livestream worship this coming Sunday, we carry forward as Easter people, and we invite you to join us.

NEW BIBLE STUDY:
Sent into the World: Christian Formation for the Mission of God
SecondChurch.org/SentintotheWorld

Dr. John Franke has developed a six-part Bible study that helps us connect with each other, with God, and with the mission of God in the world -- even in this time of social distancing. In the spirit of discipleship, these videos and discussion questions are designed for individual study, or, if you would like to join a small group on Zoom, contact John Franke.

ONLINE EVENING PRAYER SERVICE
This Thursday, April 16, 7:30 p.m., Facebook Live

With traditional evening prayer adapted from The Book of Common Worship, this short worship service includes prayers of thanksgiving and intercession, and readings from the Old and New Testament. As disciples of Christ, we join our pastors in holding our community in sacred fellowship united by prayer. You are welcome to submit specific prayer requests ahead of the evening, so our leaders can lift up your voice with a strong sense of togetherness. Please indicate if you'd like this prayer to be shared and read aloud, or kept in tender privacy.

LECTIO DIVINA READINGS

The spiritual discipline of Lectio Divina has endured through the ages. A particular Bible passage is read several times, each time with a different intention. To help you try (or continue) this spiritual practice, Second staff members have provided guided readings on the Lectio Divina playlist on our website.

A welcoming community of faith where Jesus Christ transforms lives
