Listening in Lament

"I invite you to join us for worship. The Spirit will surely be present, and I pray that you will be as well. I pray that each of us will bring hearts and minds ready to grow, ready to receive and hear the story of extraordinary love and transformative mission.
As God's sent people, this is our call."

Rev. Chris Henry

THIS SUNDAY, JUNE 7
Online Only, 11 a.m.

"Listening in Lament"
Rev. Chris Henry, preaching

On Sunday, we will worship as a community of faith. As people of God near and far, we will tune our ears and our hearts to listen in lament. Through grief and testimony we remember God’s faithfulness, we hear the witness of others, and we imagine a different future – God’s future.

LEARNING TO LISTEN

We are God's sent people. We join with children of God across our city, country, and world to work toward justice for all. The scripture directive is clear:

what does the Lord require of you
but to do justice, and to love kindness,
and to walk humbly with your God? (Micah 6:8)

How do we respond today? How do we share our welcoming community of faith with others? How do we allow Jesus to transform our lives? As a congregation and as people of God, we will work faithfully together. Listen as Dr. Enright and Rev. Chris Henry discuss the role of the church throughout the ages and in our city; join us tonight for online evening prayer; and hear Jasiel's charge from last Sunday to "Leave a trace of love."

DR. BILL ENRIGHT AND REV. CHRIS HENRY: A CONVERSATION

Our church has a history of community engagement, a mission long carried by people of God. At our core, we are a “public church” –  again called to reaffirm what defines us as the body of Christ and share our faith in a public forum. Listen in as Dr. Bill Enright and Rev. Chris Henry share a conversation about the past, present, and future of Second Presbyterian Church.

TONIGHT - THURSDAY EVENING PRAYER SERVICE
Facebook Live, 7:30 p.m.

Every Thursday we gather online to pray for the needs of our community and world. Tonight through scripture and prayer we invite you into lament, confession, and repentance around the sin of racism. We will pray for forgiveness and healing, hearing the cries of all who suffer unjustly, and ask the Spirit's power to transform our entrenched and subtle hatreds. Together as the body of Christ, let us pray for the courage to change what can no longer be accepted.

You do not need a Facebook account to access this online worship service.

LEAVE A TRACE OF LOVE

With wisdom and deep compassion on Sunday, Rev. Jasiel Hernandez called us to “leave a trace of love” as we grow deeper in faith, together. We share his words with you today – words to hold onto for now and for always. “How will you tell the most important information you know in the fewest possible words? What will be your sentence? My personal response would be something like this: Leave a trace of how you have loved that which you hold precious in your life. Leave a trace of how you have loved God’s creation, how you have loved God’s people, how you have loved God himself. Yes, leave a trace of your love.”
