ReNew - week of 2/24/08

02 27th, 2008

Hey Everybody,

I hope you had a good weekend.  Just a reminder: this Thursday, ReNew will be meeting at the church for a meal beginning at 6pm, followed by the movie, Shadowlands, at 7pm.  Shadowlands is the story of C.S. Lewis, the popular author of many Christian classics.  The meal is on us, so if you’re planning to attend, please let me know so that we can order enough!  Please see below for more info and other things coming up this week!

THIS WEEK…

  1. This weekend is Second Church’s Festival of Faith.  This is an annual church-wide educational weekend.  This year we are hosting Dr. Frank Yates of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Albuquerque, NM.  Dr. Yates will be discussing C.S. Lewis, who is arguably the most popular Christian author of the twentieth century (Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe; The Screwtape Letters; Mere Christianity; etc.).   This Thursday, ReNew will be meeting at the church for a meal beginning at 6pm, followed by the movie, Shadowlands, at 7pm.  Shadowlands is the story of love and loss in Lewis’ life.  Festival of Faith kicks off with Dr. Yates on Friday night, followed by a Saturday morning session.  He will also be preaching at the Second @ 6 service that Sunday evening.  This is a great opportunity for growth, and, as St. Augustine exhorts us, to “love God with your mind.”
  2. Friday night, either in lieu of or following Festival of Faith, some of us will be attending the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Wine Opener:  Here are the details:
    What
:  Fun-filled nite of wine tasting and delicious food from local Indy restaurants (e.g. Melting Pot, L’Explorateur, and many many others!) Proceeds go to a wonderful cause - to find a CURE for CF!
When:  Friday evening, 2/29/08 from 7-10PM
    Where:  The Indianapolis Children’s Museum
Ticket price:  $65 (I know, expensive, but $35 of it is tax deductible! :)
How to get tickets:  Kelly Akin (random girl at ReNew outings :) has 12 tickets left.

  3. Also this weekend: If you haven’t already heard, Camp Pyoca (a Presbyterian camp) will be hosing a retreat for young adults on March 1-2.  I’ve attached more information on that and a registrations form if you’re interested.  Robin Chaddock will be guiding participants through self-evaluations of success, your beliefs, and your passions, then helping you discover how to use this information to encourage your families, assist others, and fulfill your God-given purpose.  Robin is a member of Second, a college professor and a professional life coach.  This promises to be a good opportunity for personal discovery and growth.

PRAYERS…

As always, we are continually bearing each other’s burdens and lifting them to God in prayer.  Here is our prayer list:

  • Angie’s mom’s upcoming surgery & recovery
  • Paula and Westminster Neighborhood Ministries, health of her sister.
  • David W’s father’s health and David’s transition to Indy and job
  • Job search for all of us who are in that process!
  • Those who have ‘expecting’ friends, healthy pregnancies.
  • The search process for a young adults coordinator at Second Presbyterian Church
  • Adam as he serves in the Army in Iraq.  He was deployed on January 2, 2008
  • George and Building Tomorrow,
  • Shadreck, Allison, Daniel, Paris and all the students in our group

DEVOTIONS…

Psalm 30:1-5
Exodus 1:1-2:10; Matthew 18:15-35

O Lord, do your eyes not look for truth? Jeremiah 5:3
Do not judge by appearances, but judge with right judgment. John 7:24
Righteous Judge, we confess that our eyes are dimmed by sin, and we
cannot see the truth. We pray that your Spirit would convict us, open
the eyes of our hearts, and show us the truth and the word, Jesus
Christ. Amen.(from http://www.moravian.org/daily_texts/)
Peace,
Mike
