The new Sages co-moderators, John and Sue Miller, have been quietly serving the Lord for many years and in many ways.
John has been a Second member for 40 years, and Sue joined 28 years ago. They have both served as Deacons and been active in Mariners, Indianapolis Great Banquet and Bible Study Fellowship. John has been an Elder at Second and is currently a commissioner to the Whitewater Valley Presbytery. In 2012 he will begin training to become a commissioned lay pastor. Sue has been involved with the PW Wednesday morning Bible study and Monday intercessory prayer group. John heads a Sunday hospitality team, and the couple serves as evening greeters one day a month.
Thirteen years ago John and Sue started the Kairos prison ministry in Indiana. Kairos has grown to encompass 19 institutions in the state. John is currently the Indiana representative to Kairos International.
The couple’s two boys, Mark and Matt, grew up at Second. Mark served as a missionary in Belfast, Ireland, and is now a pastor at Westminster Presbyterian Church in St. Louis. Matt and his wife Meredith, along with their two children, recently rejoined Second. John and Sue have five grandchildren, all of whom attend VBS at Second each summer.
During the year, the Sages co-moderators lead five meetings of the Sages Council, which has approximately 125 members. John and Sue also oversee Sages events, including Sages luncheons, all-church luncheons, monthly dinners with ReNew members and “The Future is Now” speaker events. Anyone over age 60 is a member of Sages and encouraged to participate!
