Dr. Hudnut served as Senior Pastor of Second from 1964 – 1972. Following his tenure as Pastor, he served for one term as a Representative in Congress (1973- 1975) and then an unprecedented four terms as Mayor of Indianapolis (1976 – 1992) during a remarkable period of growth and development in our city.  He is the author of a number of books including, Minister Mayor, an account of his service in the church and the public sphere.  Bill and Beverly Hudnut currently live in the greater Washington, D.C. area where he is involved in public service, teaching and consulting work.

During the fellowship time on the Sunday of his visit at 10:40 in McFarland Hall, a portrait of Dr. Hudnut painted by Second Church artist and member, Roger Merkel, will be unveiled.  Roger Merkel also painted the portraits of Dr. Bill Enright and Dr. Joan Malick.  As we look forward to the celebration of the 175th Anniversary of Second Church in 2013, it is a joy for our congregation to have this portrait of Dr. Hudnut, whose ministry shaped our church and city.

Dr. Hudnut will speak at a congregational luncheon in the Community Room at noon.  His topic will be “Presbyterian Principles to Live By.”   Please join us for this fascinating talk about how faith and theology can guide and direct our lives and our service in the larger world.  Lunch reservations can be made on our website at www.secondchurch.org/Hudnut, in McFarland Hall on the following Sunday mornings (Sept. 1, 8, 15), or at the receptionist desk in the Atrium during weekday office hours (8:30-4:30).  The meal will cost $12 per person.  When registering, please include the name of each person who will be attending with you.  Deadline for lunch reservations is Monday, September 17 at 6:00 p.m.
